July Jubilee

Each July, The Commons | LA has practiced what we call 'July Jubilee', where we intentionally loosen our structured rhythms to embrace the life of rest we have in Jesus. The inspiration comes from Leviticus 25 where we read God tell the Israelites:

"And you shall consecrate the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a jubilee for you, when each of you shall return to his property and each of you shall return to his clan. 11 That fiftieth year shall be a jubilee for you; in it you shall neither sow nor reap what grows of itself nor gather the grapes from the undressed vines. 12 For it is a jubilee. It shall be holy to you…"

As a church, we use the month of July to disrupt our normal routines to embrace the rest we have in Jesus every month, but so easily get distracted from. July Jubilee is both corporate AND individual- you'll notice some things that are different on Sundays and in your Missional Communities and Discipleship Groups, but we also want to call everyone to shake up your routines to embrace deeper rest than you normally do.

As we look ahead to the month of July, ask the Spirit to help you see where you are exhausted and even resistant to the peace of Jesus in your life!
